Justification:
This species has a restricted distribution, with an extent of occurrence (EOO) of 2,340.568 km2 and an area of occupancy (AOO) of 28 km2.  There is an ongoing decline in quality of habitat and loss of area of occupancy as a result of overgrazing by livestock which concentrate within this species sensitive wetland habitat.  Based on this, it has been assessed as Vulnerable, under Criterion B.
History: -
Geographic Range
Range Description: This species is known from the Eswatini highveld as well as from two localities in South Africa in northern KwaZulu Natal.
Countries: Native:
Eswatini; KwaZulu-Natal;
Population
Population: The information on the population for this species is based on nine records from seven records.  No detailed population surveys have been carried out, but it is inferred that there has been a decline in the population due to ongoing habitat loss and degradation that is occuring within its range.
Population Trend: Decreasing
Habitat and Ecology
Habitat and Ecology: This species is a herbaceous perennial found growing socially in highveld swamps and near streams.  The vegetation type of the Eswatini records is KaNgwane Montane Grassland (Gm16), and the South African records in Paulpietersburg in Moist Grassland (Gm15) and Northern Zululand Mistbelt Grassland (Gs1) (Mucina et. al. 2018).
List of Habitats: 4 Grassland
4.7 Grassland - Subtropical/Tropical High Altitude
5 Wetlands (inland)
5.4 Wetlands (inland) - Bogs, Marshes, Swamps, Fens, Peatlands
Threats
Major Threat(s): It is possible that this species is declining due to habitat degradation, with overgrazing likely to be having an impact on unprotected wetland systems in the Eswatini highveld.
List of Threats: 2 Agriculture & aquaculture
2.3 Livestock farming & ranching
2.3.2 Small-holder grazing, ranching or farming
Conservation Actions
Conservation Actions: This species is not yet recorded from within any protected areas. There is a need for fieldwork to determine the extent of the population and its trends. More information on this plant's life history and ecology would assist with conservation planning.
List of Conservation Actions: 1 Land/water protection
1.2 Resource & habitat protection
3 Species management
3.4 Ex-situ conservation
3.4.2 Genome resource bank
