Description (Compton's Flora of Swaziland*):
Gunnera perpensa - Herbaceous perennial without aerial stem. Leaves rising from ground, stalk up to 45 cm long, blade up to 30 cm wide, entire or somewhat lobed and heart-shaped at base. Inflorescence also rising from ground, up to 90 cm high, with many small flowers, one- or two-sexual, along almost its whole length. Calyx tube 2—3-lobed in female flowers, absent in males; petals two or absent; stamens 1—2; ovary one-chambered with one ovule and two styles. Fruit somewhat fleshy.
