Medicinal

Description (Compton's Flora of Swaziland*):
Kaempferia ethelae - Perennial. Rhizome thick, stem short, leaves and flowers rising at surface of ground. Leaves c 5 in tuft, bases sheathing one another, blades up to c 25 cm long x 3 cm wide, with strong midrib. Sepals three, equal, membranous, joined below to form split tube; petals three, delicate, showy, mauve, up to 8 cm long with attached staminodes; fertile stamen solitary with short broad stalk, anther 1 cm long prolonged into delicate petal-like appendage c 3 cm long x 5 mm wide; ovary inferior.
