Description (Compton's Flora of Swaziland*):
Ecbolium amplexicaule - Erect shrub, almost hairless. Leaves opposite, slightly clasping stem at base, almost stalkless, oval, blunt, up to 6 cm long x 3 cm wide. Inflorescence terminal; bracts broad, leaf-like, overlapping. Calyx deeply five-cleft, lobes unequal, narrow. Corolla blue, two-lipped, downy, tube cylindrical, up to 3 cm long, lobes up to 1,2 cm long, upper lip notched, lower deeply three-lobed, lobes broad. Stamens two, protruding, anthers two-chambered. Ovary two-chambered with two ovules in each chamber. Fruit stalked, two-seeded. Seeds narrowly winged.
