Description (Compton's Flora of Swaziland*):
Vernonia adoensis - Shrubby, up to 2 m high, thinly downy throughout. Leaves stalkless, blade tapering to narrowly winged base, narrow-oval, irregularly many-toothed, paler on lower surface, up to 10 cm long x 2 cm wide. Inflorescence of few large flower-heads borne at top of stem on stalks c 2 cm long; flower-head about 4 cm diam; involucre of many broad rather loose bracts, up to 2 cm long, whitish with wavy membranous margins. Florets very numerous, mauve or purple, up to 2,5 cm long.
