Description (Compton's Flora of Swaziland*):
Loudetia simplex - (Russet Grass) Densely tufted perennial with stem about 1 m high, sometimes more. Leaves usually inrolled, rigid, sheaths loosely hairy. Inflorescence c 25 cm long, loose and open; branches spreading or semi-erect, elongated, with one or two slender brown spikelets, about 10 mm or more long, ending in slightly twisted awn up to 5 cm long.
