Description (Compton's Flora of Swaziland*):
Stiburus alopecuroides - Densely tufted perennial, usually 30—60 cm high. Leaves long, erect, wiry, sometimes exceeding flowering stems, hairy when young. Inflorescence erect, densely cylindrical, spike-like, about 5 cm long, sometimes interrupted, copiously hairy, deep dusky purple; spikelets up to 4 mm long, florets few, glumes and lemmas tapering to long points.
