Mikania
   natalensis    (Mikania)  ihlozi,  ikhambi-lesiduli,  umdlonzo,
      Medicinal: Medicinal for urinary complaints, headache, backache & colds.
Melanthera
   scandens subsp. dregei *     ikhaphanyongo,  isihiyapice,  ulimi-lwenkomo,
Mohria
   vestita   
      Medicinal: Used to rid children of worms. Mixed with fat an ointment for burns.
Microgramma
   mauritiana    (Rockrunner)  gebeleweni,
      Medicinal: Whole plant treats lice on humans and prevents spread of lice.
Melinis   mafusane,
   minutiflora   
      Fodder: Cultivated pasture.
   nerviglumis   
      Household: Bird's nests
   repens subsp. repens   
      Soil Conservation: Erosion control. Bird's nests.
Manihot
   esculenta *    (Sweet Potato)  bhatata,
      Medicinal: Roots for scabies. Toxic
      Food: Edible roots & leaves prepared with care to avoid toxicity. Starch used to make tapioca.
Mystroxylon
   aethiopicum    (Transvaal Kooboo-berry)  ingulutane,  lishasha,  sehlulamanya,  sehlulamanye,  umboyi,  umgungulutane,
      Cultural: Believed helpful in winning a law case. Branches for fighting sticks in Incwala.
      Household: Crafts & household items. Xhosa fighting sticks & knobkeries.
      Medicinal: Bark as emetic
      Food: Sweet, edible fruit but sometimes sour.

Macadamia
   ternifolia *   
      Food: Edible nuts. Probably in fact M.integrifolia not M.ternifolia
Morus
   alba *    (White Mulberry)  emagumence,  liguncumence,
      Fodder: Leaves are fodder for the silkworm
      Medicinal: Fruit, leaves & bark. Expectorant & for colds.
      Food: Black, sweet fruit
Morella
   brevifolia    (Dwarf Waxberry)  meluleka-waphansi,
   pilulifera    (Broad-leaved Waxberry)  maluleka,  melulefa,  meluleka,  umlulama ,
      Medicinal: Medicinal roots to maintain well-being and good health.
   serrata    (Lance-leaved Waxberry)  leti,  maluleka,  meluleka,  uleti,
      Household: Fruits, stems & leaves produce oils for candles or soap.
      Medicinal: Roots & bark used as remedy for headaches.
      Food: Edible fruits.
