Swaziland's Fishes Checklist
Hydrocynus vittatus Castelnau, 1861
Alestidae (Characins)
(Tiger fish)
Status: Data Deficient (Natural population may be close to extinction)
Previously reported from the Komati Usutu and Ngwavuma systems by Clay (op. cit.). Current investigations did not produce any riverine specimens throughout the country. Indicates that, to say the least, the species is decreasing. Common where introduced e.g. Van Eck Dam, Big Bend. The fact that the species is a desirable sport fish may be connected with its perceived decline.
