CULTURAL RESOURCES: National Museum Natural History Wing

The Natural History Wing was built in 1991, with the following objectives:

  • To educate the public about the diverse ecosystems of Swaziland.
  • To illustrate by example how Swazi Culture is influenced by nature.
  • To highlight the importance of environmental issues.

The displays include dioramas showing typical highveld and lowveld scenes.

One of the displays features nocturnal animals, which, although they may be common, are often seldom seen.

The Mantenga Falls diorama features aquatic species. There are also displays showing Swazi cultural ceremonies and attire, herbs with traditional medicinal usage, and other cultural uses of Swaziland's plants and animals.
