Clay (1972) gives a detailed account of the introduction of this species and M. dolomieu into various locations in Swaziland although the same author, (Clay 1976) indicates the absence of M. dolomieu in his later survey. M. salmoides was recorded by Clay (1976) from a range of locations throughout the country though these were mainly dams. Current investigations did not produce any specimens of either species from any of the rivers sampled, although no statement can be made regarding dams on private land. Indeterminate.
