PROGRAMMES: Park Management - Alien Plant Control in Mlawula Nature Reserve
Problem Species
Two of the most problematic species are Lantana camara and Chromolaena odorata, which have spread up the rivers and have formed dense thickets along the riverbanks and adjacent areas.
Chromolaena odorata (Triffid Weed)
Lantana camara (Lantana)
Cutting and applying herbicide
To remove the Lantana and Chromolaena, it is necessary to not only cut down the plants, but to also apply herbicide to the cut stems to prevent regrowth.
