Visitor Information - Activities and Attractions
Nature
Malolotja offers a diverse range of hiking opportunities, varying from short walks to overnight trails taking advantage of the network of over 200 kms of hiking trails and seventeen backpacking camps. A seven day trail could encompass all areas of the park.
Mantenga offers hiking trails along the river and on the mountain, providing an opportunity to enjoy the rich birdlife of the area. Guided hikes can be booked with interpretation provided by a Swazi field guide.
Mlawula has a network of 50 kms of trails, ranging in duration from 1.5 hours to 2 days (all water must be carried), and offers the rare opportunity for visitors to walk self-guided through the bushveld to experience the more intimate encounters with nature and wildlife. The trails in the Lubombo mountains provide excellent views across Swaziland to the west and as far as the Mozambique coast in the east.
Game Drives
Both Malolotja and Mlawula offer opportunities for game drives. Guided drives can be arranged at Mlawula, enquire at Magadzavane Lodge.
The Treetop Canopy Tour at Malolotja offers a unique opportunity to glide across a forested gorge within the park.
Birdwatching
Swaziland is an excellent country for bird watching, with almost 500 species being found within the country. Malolotja offers a diverse range of highveld and middleveld species, including birds such as the blue swallow, bald ibis, striped flufftail, black rumped buttonquail and many other interesting species. Mantenga is home to a variety of predominantly middleveld species. Mlawula is noteworthy for its high diversity of birdlife, including a number of species not found in the higher parts of the country.
Both Malolotja and Mlawula offer opportunities for mountain biking.
Fishing
Fishing in the Mbuluzi and Mlawula rivers at Mlawula is a popular pasttime. A fishing permit can be obtained athte Mlawula main entrance.
Picnics
Malolotja, Mantenga and Mlawula all have picnic sites available for visitors.
Culture
Swazi Cultural Village Tour
The Swazi Cultural Village at Mantenga offers visitors the opportunity to learn about a traditional Swazi village, as it would have been constructed in the late 19th century.
Traditional Dancing
Mantenga hosts twice daily performances by the Mantenga traditional dance troupe.
National Museum
The National Museum, located at Lobamba, offers both ethnographic and natural history information.
The King Sobhuza II Park, also at Lobamba, opposite the Parliament, and is open from Mondays to Fridays, from 8 am to 5 pm.
